“We contracted Active Pest Control to remove the termites in our new home, and they did a fantastic job. Their prices are fair, and Tony is very hands-on, taking the time to answer all of your questions, explain processes, and be flexible with your schedule. Read below for more details, but TL;DR – they get the job done.  This is California, and as someone recently told me, there are only 2 types of homes: ones that have termites, and ones that will get them.  It’s part of life, and while they are a destructive infestation to deal with, the world will always have them. (Fun fact: termites are among the most successful groups of insects in the world, and queens can reportedly live 30-50 years!) I’m glad that Tony at Active Pest Control was able to guide us through this process of heat treatment.  When we were doing inspections before closing, there were signs of subterranean termites in the front yard, and signs of dry wood termites in our garage and shed.  There was no sign of termites in the home during the inspection, but soon after we moved in we found wood shavings dropped by our front door.  With no small amount of frustration towards the previous owners and their agent (who would have certainly had to clean up the shavings to hide them), we called Tony to get a quote.  Since he had done the inspection, we were able to work out a very fair price for the 3 structures and the soil treatment.  GAS vs HEAT: Do your research! Many people – myself included – are not comfortable with using fumigation, because (1) the gases are deadly to ALL living creatures and (2) it is very inconvenient to temporarily move out of your home.  To the first point: obviously fumigation is performed regularly, but Sulfuryl Fluoride is no joke. Although it is a gas and will naturally disperse over time, I did not feel comfortable using it in my home or around neighbors, whose houses are very close (about 6 feet on either side) to ours in Silverlake.  Tony assured us that heat treatment would take care of the problem. While some people on the internet reported the method to be ineffective, it’s been almost a month now, and we have no signs of termites.  Heat treatment involves using a special heater connected to a propane tank that blows hot air into the structure.  Drywood termites will be killed when the temperature reaches 120 – 140 degrees Fahrenheit for roughly 30 minutes.  The idea of this was very daunting – what did we even have in the house that would be damaged at these temperatures!?  I have lots of instruments and electronics, so this was a concern.  Tony again reassured us that the electronics would be fine, and that anything that could melt or be damaged by heat (instruments, candles, thin plastics, batteries, etc) would need to be removed during the treatment, which only takes about 1 hour in each structure. We put food and beauty products in the refrigerator, and put the rest out in the yard during treatment.  We had some difficulty with scheduling, but Tony was very accommodating.  I triple checked with him regarding what needed to be removed during treatment, and he was there to answer my questions each time.  There were 2 specialists on site to perform heat and soil treatments.  Not only were they knowledgeable and professional, but they had a great sense of humor and, given the circumstances, very fun to talk to.  (Side note: pest removal guys have LOTS of stories, you should ask them to tell you some of their favorites!)  The soil was treated with a specialized spray, and they explained that subterranean termites would be killed on contact when they tunnel up to the surface.  Over all, the heat treatment was much less invasive than I thought.  The guys were at our house for about 4 hours total, and completed the heat treatment in all three structures.  I highly recommend Active Pest Control, and if you have any questions, concerns, or doubts, give Tony a call and ask him about anything.  Hopefully everyone can have as positive an experience as us with what is surely an inconvenient-at-best problem, and I am confident as a customer that Active Pest Control will help you do so.”

Active Pest Control has the best customer service. The pest control supervisor Chad came to the house and sprayed inside and outside. He removed all the spiderwebs all around the house and inside the garage. He came back the week after and had his guys inspect my attic for rodents. They sealed all points of entries with screens and set traps. They came back three more time to check the traps. Luckily there were no rats. They will be spraying for bugs on s quarterly basis. “After moving into a new home, we noticed waterbugs/roaches would show up dead in the garage. Unsure what else might be going on in this new house, we wanted to work with a company to create a solid bug barrier. After having 1 company give us the most ridiculous quote imaginable and expecting a  contract and then getting a reference from a neighbor,Active Pest Control is our bi-monthly pest control service since June 2014 with no contract and a reasonable rate. I want the inside and outside sprayed every other month – therefore, Active Pest Control knows to call me before the spraying to align the time to my schedule. I always need 8 am to 9 am in the morning and they always come through on time.

This allows me to get on work on time or just a few minutes late. 

I also report any specific issues I am seeing and they will adjust the treatment as needed.  They always tell me that I can all them at any time if I see a bug problem in between service, but so far I have not used this option.  The first time they came out – it left a residue in my house, which you can imagine I was upset and thinking i would never use this company again.  However, what I was so impressed with was that they sent someone out right away (to fit my schedule) to clean it up and re-spray.  I have never had the issue since – but they showed me their commitment to customer service.

“Wow! I don’t know why these guys don’t have more reviews, but let me begin with mine. I first tried them about 3 or 4 years ago. We were living in an apartment that had become infested with roaches. It might have been new neighbors moving the roaches in or more probably our next door senior “friend” who was a trash hoarder. Van took my call, set up an appt. and came right on time. They dotted all around with a special gel and sprayed all outside my unit, including around the little patio. They came back again the next month, since the infestation they saw was severe, however, by the second visit, the roaches were magically popping up dead everywhere! By the second month, no roaches AT ALL!  I love these guys. They are honest, reliable and so affordable. They only charged $50 for each bi-monthly visit!!! The best part is that the product they use Works!!! 
We moved sometime after and decided to keep them even though our new place was pest free, except for occasional spiders/ ants during summer. Again, active pest control delivered on their promise and kept our place clean of bugs. Thank you for such great service!!!!”
